Uniformed security guard

According to the Ministry a security license is required for work in Ontario involving protection of people and property which includes:

  • security guard
  • bodyguard
  • bouncer, or
  • loss prevention employee.

The Private Security and Investigative Services Act also states that a security license is required for work involving remuneration, meaning you are paid. The security license is valid across Ontario. Once you obtain your security license you do not need to apply again if you switch employers or move to another city. The license is valid for two birthdays.

According to the Ontario Court of Justice website, on Item 8 you can be fined up to $150 for: Act or hold out as security guard without appropriate licence and Item 53 or 55, fined up to $100 for: Fail to carry security guard licence or Fail to produce security guard licence on request
